Coming Up With Toddler Halloween Costume Ideas
Sometimes the hardest part of dressing a small child up
for the Halloween festivities is coming up with a good
toddler Halloween costume idea. Part of the reason for
this is that not only does a Halloween costume intended
for a young child have to be to the child’s liking (and
parents know that little kids can be very particular –
you can offer ever Simba and Pokemon in the store but
they will kick and scream to dress as a lamppost or some
other nonsensical thing), it also has to be cute. More
than cute, it must be absolutely precocious, although as
far as the parents are concerned the child would look
adorable in a potato sack or a Hefty bag with holes cut
for the head and arms.
Licensed characters are almost always a safe bet for a
toddler Halloween costume idea, however. Lampposts
aside, most kids between the ages of two and four will
go completely gaga over a Spongebob Squarepants or Elmo
(from Sesame Street) costume. Also popular are other
Sesame Street characters like Cookie Monster, Oscar the
Grouch, Grover, and Kermit the Frog.
Almost any program that you know the child enjoys can be
a good source for a Halloween costume. If your toddler
likes Teletubbies, there’s bound to be a Tinkie Winkie
or Po costume just for her. If she’s into Veggie Tales
or The Wiggles, there are costumes based on characters
from those properties as well.
Some people prefer to go a different route with their
toddler Halloween costume ideas by making or buying more
generic animal costumes. Small children look very cute
dressed up as dogs, cows, kitty cats, and the like. Most
fabric stores sell the patterns and materials needed to
create costumes like these at home and most costume
shops will have completed outfits like these in
toddlers’ sizes around Halloween. Don’t look for them in
June, but toward the end of September they are usually
available.
More difficult than choosing a licensed character or
cute and fluffy animal costume is coming up with a
completely unique idea for a toddler Halloween costume.
Not only is this difficult (since the best ideas have
almost all been taken), but it is ill-advised since the
toddler will probably be unhappy with the choice anyway.
In almost every case you are usually better off using an
existing toddler Halloween costume idea than you are
trying to come up with something completely original.
So, whether you decide to dress your little child up in
a costume based upon a popular children’s television
program like Spongebob Squarepants or as an animal like
a fluffy bunny or a cow, your bound to enjoy the way she
looks in her Halloween outfit. In fact, you’ll want to
make sure you have plenty of film in your camera to make
sure you can capture all the memories of your child’s
Halloween. After all, those memories are how we make the
best of our toddler Halloween costume ideas.
